LADAKH EXPERIENCE 2011

MANALI - LADAKH

This is the absolute in true motorcycling adventures and undeniably the toughest journey in the world. We take you across some of the highest roads on earth, on top of the world and at altitudes that will leave you speechless with exhilaration and anticipation. Rocks, boulders, snow-melt waters and desert sands in your path, the mighty Himalayas, its vastness, wilderness and barren landscapes, eclipse anything you might have ridden before or ever dreamt of in your wildest dreams. Ladakh is an extraordinary place with stupendous scenery and its people truly charming. Immerse yourself in ancient cultures still thriving in these remote areas of the upper Himalayas and the experiences you take away with you. You will never be quite the same person again. Day 1: Arrive New Delhi International airport
You will be met and greeted by our staff and transferred to your luxury hotel. After relaxing, refreshing and dinning, your adventure begins. Late afternoon you travel to your luxury hotel in Agra. Don’t forget the camera.

Day 2: Agra
An early morning call and maybe even a cry from the peacocks before breakfast and a sunrise rendezvous with oneof the “Seven Wonders of the World”. The fabulous Taj Mahal. We couldn’t make it up if we tried. Late morning leaving Agra and returning to Delhi.

Day 3: Delhi – Manali 2050m
Early morning departure (around 5am) and the journey to Manali and the foothills of the Himalayas and a feast for the eyes. Arrive late afternoon –early evening and your mountain hotel.

Day 4: Manali 2050m
Awake and you are greeted with some of the most wonderful scenery you will encounter anywhere. Continental or English breakfast in the dining-room, afterwards chatting over coffee about the ride ahead and meet your support team and your Royal Enfield 500cc bike. After the get together, we take a short ride to let you get the feel of the bike and a taste of things to come.

Day 5: Manali – Jispa 3142m
Early ride-out from Manali and we head towards Jispa, our first overnight destination. En-route we climb and ride over our first high mountain pass, the ‘Rohtang Pass’ at nearly 3500m. Here snow-melt water, landslides and mud sections are ever possible. In the evening over dinner, chat away the day’s events, whilst giving you the chance to acclimatise for those higher passes ahead.

Day 6: Jispa – Sarchu 4253m
Following a good night’s sleep, our route climbs again towards Sarchu, but not before crossing over our next high pass at Baralacha-la 4830m. You are truly amongst the Himalayas and acclimatising again at our overnight stay in Sarchu for our stay on the Ladakhi Plateau.

Day 7: Sarchu – Leh
Today is a long ride (approx 249 km). Prior to leaving Sarchu, we check to make sure everyone is OK before journeying the road to Leh. As well as ascending the 21 odd hairpins of the Gata Loops. On the road ahead, there are off-road sections where rocks, boulders and desert sands are ever present. Caution is recommended. We lunch in Pang before crossing the second highest pass at Tanglang La 5360m, before reaching Leh early evening.

Day 8: Leh
A day of rest and a chance to wander around Leh. Once a stop-over destination for ancient traders from Afghanistan, Turkey and the Arabian Kingdoms travelling the famous Silk route. It’s written that what Hong Kong is to the Far East. Leh was to Central Asia. While in Leh you have the chance to visit the 16th century Leh Palace and permits are readied for the Restricted Areas of upper Himalayas.

Day 9: Leh – Tangtse
A long ride. After early breakfast, you are about to ride on one of the highest motorable roads in the world and over the pass at Khardong La 5400m high. Welcome to the top of the world. Taking a few minutes to adjust, the views of the Himalayas from here are incredible. From Khardong La, we head down towards Nubra Valley and ride alongside the Shyok river towards Wari La pass. From Wari we head down to Sakti, before climbing yet again for Chang La (pass) 5320m, then onto our overnight stop at Tangtse.

Day 10: Tangtse - Pangong Tso
An easy ride from Tangtse making one river crossing before reaching Pangong. By Pangong Tso we stay in luxury tents at the lakes edge and enjoy the changing colours of the lake. Pangong Tso is situated at a height of around 4250m and it is 134 km in length and some 5km wide in places. The lake 40% of the lake is in India and 60% in China.

Day 11: Pangong Tso – Thiksey
From Pangong, today’s gentle ride takes us to Thiskey and to one of the most beautiful monasteries of Ladakh. Overnight stay at Thiksey.

Day 12: Thiksey – Sarchu
A good days ride and the return journey that will blow your mind with some fantastic scenic views.

Day 13: Sarchu – Jispa
A gentle days riding through open valleys and unwinding with thoughts of days past.

Day 14: Jispa – Manali
A short half days ride to Manali and the Rohtang pass. Being careful as we go over the rough road and through mud on the other side of the pass, before heading for our last overnight stay in the foothills of the Himalayas.

Day 15: Manali – Delhi
Transfer to Delhi on luxury coach to your hotel before flying back home, last minute shopping and your thoughts on what you have accomplished.

Day 16: Homeward flight
