SPITI VALLEY - 2011

This tour is the ‘little sister’ to Ladakh and takes place amongst topography that changes before your eyes. Spiti also known as ‘Little Tibet, gives you an insight into Buddhists traditions and a way of life that has changed little thus far. An opportunity to visit one of the oldest Monasteries situated outside of Tibet, in Tabo and still functioning. Taking a ride to Kibber, the highest motorable village in the world, before hitting the off-road tracks of the Spiti valley.

Day 1: Arrive New Delhi International airport
You will be met and greeted by our staff and transferred to your luxury hotel. After relaxing, refreshing and dinning, your adventure begins. Late afternoon you travel to your luxury hotel in Agra. Don’t forget the camera.

Taj MahalDay 2: Agra
An early morning call and maybe even a cry from the peacocks before breakfast and a sunrise rendezvous with one of the “Seven Wonders of the World”. The fabulous Taj Mahal. We couldn’t make it up if we tried. Late morning leaving Agra and returning to Delhi.

Day 3: Delhi – Parwanoo
After breakfast we depart from Delhi and enjoy the steady journey to Parwanoo. Having seen the Taj Mahal, the excitement has already set in and by the time we leave the main highway, we head into the foothills of the Himalayas. Late afternoon meet your support team and get acquainted with your “Bullet”. We take a short steady ride for you to get used to the handling of the 500cc machine.

SpitiDay 4: Parwanoo – Shimla – Sarahan
Today is a gentle long ride through stunning greenery, smooth roads and mountains and today will give you time to get used to riding your bike. We visit Shimla en-route and head towards beautiful hill-side village of Sarahan. Our stay here is complimented by the surrounding views.

Day 5: Sarahan – Sangla
From the green mountains to the desert-like glimpse of Sangla, you will start to see changes in landscape and the road leads us into Sangla Valley, where the location is stunningly wonderful. We camp for the night and relax

Day 6: Sangla – Kalpa
Having chatted the night away, and rested well. In the morning we then take the high road to Chitkul, the highest village in the Sangla Valley. Chitkul is literally a ‘stones-throw' from the Indo-Tibet border. A sight not many get to see, but worthwhile as there may be time for tea and a chat with the border guards, after which we head off towards Kalpa

SpitiDay 7: Kalpa – Tabo
Our ride takes us to Kalpa, and the mountainous views from here are just amazing. Kalpa is said to have been once the favourite haunt of Lord Dalhousie, the then Governor General of India, and it’s also been said once the climate of the place cured him of illness. Mind you Kalpa is surrounded by vineyards, and if you are inclined to taste home-made nectar. Then it’s possible just a small taste would be available

Day 8: Tabo – Kaza (Kibber)
You’ve ridden through the green valleys of Kinnaur and from Tabo we hit the awesome trails of Spiti Valley, and the small town of Tabo. The town has not changed for millennia and is where you will find the second most Spitiimportant Buddhist Monastery, only to that of Tholong Gompa in Tibet. The 10th century Tabo Monastery houses some 60 Lamas and contains old scriptures and artefacts. A great place to take time out and relax

Day 9: Kaza (Kibber) – Chandra Tal (Moon Lake)
You ride through some of the most stunning and awe-inspiring landscapes and the adventure just gets better and better as we head towards Kaza. Set between steep ridges. Kaza is a market town, from where we head towards ‘Kibber’, the highest motorable village in the world, at 4270m

Day 10: Chandra Tal (Moon Lake) – Keylong
The ride to the lake is a mix of stone and dirt track and if lucky, we can actually ride to the hill-side which overlooks the lake and camp for the night. The views around are astounding, and the silence dream-inducing, and for some who can brave the cold, can bathe in the cool clear-mountain water

SpitiDay 11: Keylong – Manali
Manali is a fantastic place to rest & relax and the bikes also get checked out . There is plenty happening in Manali, so anyone still full of energy, can have a go at paragliding, white – water rafting or see the old town with its rustic beauty and temples

Day 12: Manali
Riding out from Manali, on the left-hand side we track along the beautiful Beas river with the Kullu valley stretching out in front of us

Day 13: Manali – Shoja
Riding over bridges and high roads. The never-ending beauty of landscapes continues and though coming towards the ending of our journeying. Every kilometre is still breathtaking

Day 14: Shoja – Parwanoo
Shoja near Jalori Pass at 3223 metres; you can see the snow capped peaks of the Himalayas, even from here

Day 15: Parwanoo – Delhi
Transfer to Delhi on luxury coach to your hotel before flying back home, last minute shopping and your thoughts on what you have accomplished.

Day 16: Delhi and flight home  (extra day added)
Thank you for a great adventure and maybe we’ll see you again on one of our other expeditions
